Stamford park wetlands
We delivered a major landscape and waterway enhancement package on this project. The works combined significant civil construction with high-quality public realm infrastructure. First, we completed bulk earthworks with excavation and Level 1 fill. This allowed us to construct three swales and a new wetland.
We then formed the wetland using a compacted clay liner, pools and balance pipes. These elements work together to support reliable hydraulic performance. We also constructed two substantial pit structures to manage inflows and outlet flows to Corhanwarrabul Creek. Additionally, we constructed a major embankment in accordance with ANCOLD design requirements.
Next, we finished the wetland and associated features with rock-beached pools. We also constructed a rock-beached spillway incorporating a level control weir. Curved concrete retaining walls up to 2.5 metres high were built to integrate seamlessly into the surrounding terrain.
We significantly upgraded community access and amenity beyond the waterway works. This included an extensive shared user path network across the site. We also designed and constructed a 40-metre single-span footbridge. Additionally, we built a raised FRP wetland boardwalk for pedestrian access over the wetland.
We constructed three over-water viewing decks as part of the public realm works. These were built on poured concrete piles with structural steel frames and FRP decking. We also designed and constructed a Council toilet block. This included electrical, sewer and potable water reticulation. A viewing tower was also designed and constructed to complete the public facilities.
We installed a disability-friendly playground with a full EPDM soft-fall rubber system. We also placed artwork, sculpture and Council furniture throughout the site. These elements activate the space and support community use.
Finally, we transformed the wider site with 15 hectares of landscaping. This included the planting of approximately 98,000 tubes and trees. The result is a durable, functional and inviting space. It has been designed for both environmental performance and everyday community use.
